What Style of Karate will I learn?
This question is always asked... As a parent and practitioner I always have said... The practitioner makes the art, not the art makes the practitioner. With that in mind, our formal curriculum / base foundation is the style of SHITO RYU. (See the History section for more detail info). However, due to our extensive background in the Martial Arts, you, your son / daughter is not going to be limited to only one system. During the beginning stages the most important approach regardless of what style of martial arts anyone practices is the foundation, ie. Stances, kicks, blocks, punches, angles, proper technique, and posture. As the student progresses from beginner to intermediate to advance all the basic fundamentals are essential and necessary.
We train all our students equally and we follow these four very important steps during our training.
#1 First we work in our Form: How we stand, how we move and how we execute.
#2 Second comes our balance: Without balance we don't have a foundation.
#3 Third comes speed: Without the proper Form and Balance we can not and will not deliver the initial speed needed to reach our target.
#4 Finally Power, using the proper fundamentals mentioned above you, your son / daughter will apply the proper force into the technique.
In closing no specific style in the Martial Art system is better than the other, it is who teaches it and who is learning it and applying it correctly. At the All American Karate Academy we continue to developed true and real martial artist. We teach them not only the traditional aspect of the art, but also the most important part... The applicable/effective technique.
We welcome any system or style of martial arts regardless of the learning level or background level. Be part of our Team, regardless if your interest is for Fitness, Competition, or just Fun. You will be welcome and trained properly.
Yours in the Art

What is Karate?
"True karate is this: that in daily life one's mind and body be trained and developed in a spirit of humility, and that in critical times, one be devoted utterly to the cause of justice."
-- Gichin Funakoshi
Karate translated either means "Chinese hand" or "Empty hand" depending on which Japanese or Chinese characters you use to write it.
Okinawan Karate styles tend to be hard and external. In defense they tend to be circular, and in offense linear.
Okinawan Karate styles tend to place more emphasis on rigorous physical conditioning than the Japanese styles. Japanese styles tend to have longer, more stylistic movements and to be higher commitment. They also tend to be linear in movement, offense, and defense.
Both tend to be high commitment, and tend to emphasize kicks and punches, blocks, strikes, evasions, throws, joint manipulations and a strong offense as a good defense. Karate techniques consist basically of hand and foot techniques. Hand techniques are divided into defensive or offensive moves. Foot techniques are divided into kicking techniques; snap and thrust kicks. Other important elements of Karate include stances, posture, body shifting, hip rotation, and breathing.

Training differs widely but most of the Karate styles emphasize a fairly equal measure of basic technique training (kihon), sparring (kumite), and forms (kata). Forms are stylized patterns of attacks and defenses done in sequence for training purposes.
An art of self-defense as well as a sport, Karate has in recent decades proliferated worldwide. It is one of the most widely practiced of the Asian martial arts, with a large following in the U.S., Japan and Europe.
